FSF buying guide: holiday shopping with free software values

In previous Novembers, you may have seen the FSF's holiday buying guides, which we created to make it simple to support free software values with your holiday shopping. We're bringing the guide back this year, but taking a different tack. We're going to do our best to add more individual recommendations in addition to the broad principles we focused on before.

My favorite idea so far is to mimic the format of the popular book series Eat This, Not That. Working from this idea, an entry in the guide would look something like the above image.

We plan for the guide to cover audio, video and ebooks as well as all kinds of computers and software. To get all this information together, we need your help. If you have a suggestion for a product to include (either as a “Buy This” or as a “Not That”), please post it at fsf.org/buyingguide.

Thanks for helping your fellow FSF members make ethical choices this holiday season. Happy holidays!
