The patent threat from Apple
by Zak Rogoff last modified Jan 11, 2013 10:37 AM
Steve Jobs went on record vowing to "destroy" Android because he felt Apple deserved an exclusive right to make touch-based smartphones. Jobs obviously did not have the best interest of smartphone users in mind, seeking to restrict options to his proprietary and restrictive devices. But are threats like this credible? News Item FSF responds to Oracle v. Google and the threat of software patents
by Brett Smith published Sep 08, 2010
As you likely heard on any number of news sites, Oracle has filed suit against Google, claiming that Android infringes some of its Java-related copyrights and patents. Blog Entry Helping out This American Life—with an Ogg copy of the show
by Brett Smith published Aug 01, 2011 last modified Aug 24, 2011 10:23 AM
Last week, we asked you all to write to This American Life to thank them for their episode about software patents, "When Patents Attack!", and ask them to make it available in Ogg Vorbis format. We thought it would also be helpful to offer them a copy of the show that's already been converted to Ogg Vorbis; with this, the only work they have to do is copy that file and post it on their own servers. Here's the text of the letter we sent them.
