Net neutrality exists when Internet service providers (ISPs) must allow equal access to everything on the Web, rather than favoring some sites over others. It's a bedrock condition for Internet freedom, but ISPs generally oppose it because it prevents them from charging companies extra for privileged access to the network -- making a video from one Web site load faster than video on other sites, for example.

them.

We'll rally in front of the building of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to oppose a disastrous proposal by Hollywood and proprietary tech companies: adding Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) to the HTML standard that undergirds the Web. We'll hear experts and activists speak on the topic, and distribute flyers, during an ongoing W3C event.

We'll be hand-delivering a comment against the the part of the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act) that makes circumvention of DRM a crime, even when done for important reasons like security research or accessibility. Our comment is co-signed by more than 1,000 people, but the Copyright Office won't let us submit it online without proprietary software.

Have you filled out our Vision Survey yet? It's up until Sunday night
(specifically 12:00am Eastern or 05:00 UTC on Monday, February
1st). We've received lots of great feedback already, but we want to
hear from more people across the free software community.
