Rémi Denis-Courmont is one of the primary developers of the VLC media
player, which is free software and distributed under the GPL. Earlier
this week, he wrote to Apple to complain that his work was being
distributed through their App Store, under terms that contradict the
GPL's conditions and prohibit users from sharing the program.

Google recently made headlines after they identified some malware
being distributed through the Android Market. Not only did they stop
distributing those apps, but they used their "remote kill switch" to
remove the apps from phones where they were already downloaded. This
is a kind of Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) that all computer
users should avoid.

Last week, Microsoft extended the terms of their Community Promise to
implementations of the ECMA 334 and 335 standards. You might think
this means it's safe to write your software in C#. However, this
promise is full of loopholes, and it's nowhere near enough to make C#
safe.
