Forged Emails

by Matt Lee Contributions Published on Jul 26, 2004 03:07 PM
Some people have been receiving mail that appears to come from us that carries attachments which are probably dangerous. It's not really from us.

If you receive a mail that looks like this, know that we did not send it:

"Dear user of member.fsf.org, administration of member.fsf.org would like to inform you

We have received reports that your e-mail account has been used to send a large amount of spam during the recent week. Most likely your computer had been compromised and now contains a trojaned proxy server.

Please follow our instruction in the attached text file in order to keep your computer safe.

Sincerely yours, member.fsf.org technical support team."

We have not investigated what the attachment is, but you should definitely not open it.

If you ever have any questions about whether a piece of mail is really from us or not, don't hesitate to contact us.
