The former FSF office housed a great deal of fun and historically relevant free software memorabilia related to the FSF, GNU, and to the free software movement in general. It seems a pity to lock them away in a storage unit where nobody ever sees them, so instead, we want to entrust them to the free software community, and we hope that some of them will be displayed in public spaces, or on your wall.
We selected the best memorabilia to offer in an auction this month. This is your chance to get your very own personal souvenir of the FSF. The FSF Memorabilia Live Auction will feature the following six prestigious historical artifacts:
- The original GNU head drawing by Etienne Suvasa, which became the blueprint for the iconic GNU logo present everywhere in the free software world;
- The Internet Hall of Fame medal awarded to Richard Stallman;
- A legendary katana;
- The original Gnu birthday drawing by Etienne Suvasa, which has been used on a
number of occasions such as the fortieth anniversary party of the GNU System, and even decorated the cover of the Introduction to the Command Line;
- A pair of GCC gnu letter drawings by Gary Torrisi Studio showing two gnus forming the letters "G" and "C" that are on the cover of the book Using GCC - The GNU Compiler Collection Reference Manual for GCC;
- And the Norbert Wiener Award for Social and Professional Responsibility, which was awarded to the free software movement itself and given to the FSF in 1999 "in appreciation for their deep commitment to the socially responsible use of computing technology" .
