A last-minute gift that will capture the true spirit of Christmas

'Tis the night before... the night before Christmas, and [groan] your shopping list has some names left on it. Are you still searching for a gift for a friend, family member, or coworker, but not all that motivated to join the swarm of people milling about the consumerist landscape in an attempt to squeeze in the last few purchases?

Are you stumped on what to give a special someone who looks like they might already have everything? Do you feel anxious and pressured? Are you disenchanted with the whole process and in fear of buying yet another item that might turn out to be unnecessary, redundant, or excessive? Take heart! There is still time to find a thoughtful and socially conscious gift, which won't gather any dust and will keep on giving into the new year: we're talking, of course, about an FSF membership!

Giving your friend or loved one an FSF membership will help us meet our fundraising goal of $450,000 and ensure we continue to fight for computer-user freedom in 2014. And in addition to becoming a part of the free software movement, your gift recipient will be able to enjoy both the tangible and intangible benefits of supporting the FSF through a membership.

Giving a membership as a gift is easy: make sure you are not logged into an FSF account you might have, and make a donation of $60, for a student membership, or of $120, for an associate membership, or any larger amount you wish, using the gift recipient's name. Please note: a thank-you e-mail will automatically be sent out to the e-mail address associated with the donation, and the welcome packet (including the USB member card and the bulletin), will be mailed to the mailing address you enter.

Whatever you decide, best wishes for a merry holiday season and a happy new year!
