Free Software Directory meeting recap for May 12th, 2017

by Donald Robertson III Contributions Published on May 16, 2017 02:47 PM
Check out the great work our volunteers accomplished at the last Free Software Directory meeting.

Every week free software activists from around the world come together in #fsf on irc.freenode.org to help improve the Free Software Directory. This recaps the work we accomplished at the Friday, May 12th, 2017 meeting.

This week we returned to the golden oldies again, working on entries that had not been reviewed in some time. It appears someone has been making quite a bit of progress on those old entries, leaving behind only ones where source code could no longer be found. It's unfortunate when a package disappears from the internet, but if the code is no longer available we want to clear it out of the Directory. AlKamoD made their first appearance at the Directory meeting and saw that they could automate some tasks. They're putting together a script to scrap entries and do some analysis on them. We're looking forward to seeing the outcome of that project. aubreyr also dropped by to say hello and we were able to get them up to date and hacking away at old entries in no time.

If you would like to help update the directory, meet with us every Friday in #fsf on irc.freenode.org from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. EDT (16:00 to 19:00 UTC).
