Successes and awards for FSF board members in 2024
As 2024 closes and we begin to publish updates from all of our teams, we want to take a moment to recognize some achievements the FSF board has received this year:
Gerald Sussman received:
-
the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Computer Society Taylor Booth Education Award for "providing a novel, long-lasting, and inspirational approach to the teaching of computer science through functional programming that has impacted students from a broad range of STEM disciplines."
-
the IEEE Educational Activities Board Major Education Innovation Award for "inspiring students of computer science, engineering, and science with his "structure and interpretation" approach, books, and MIT courses."
Richard Stallman was awarded with:
Two (!) doctorates on his latest visit to Perú. On October 22, he received one from the Universidad Nacional de Cañete and on October 30, Universidad Autónoma de Perú awarded him with another one. Stallman has now been awarded with the honor seventeen times in addition to his five honorary professorships.
An honorable mention for Geoff Knauth
On a different note, we would also like to take a moment to appreciate these awards our president Geoff Knauth received for his dedication to aviation: the Meritorious Service Award from the Civil Air Patrol, and the Award for Meritorious Service in a Duty of Great Responsibility.
