What does free software look like in action?

As part of our FSF40 festivities, we decided to throw a photo contest in honor of the countless hours of hard work that have gone into free software and its development. Thank you so much to everyone who participated in the FSF40 Photo Contest! It was quite heartening to see some of the ways that community members use free software everyday. The images entered into the FSF40 Photo Contest are but a small sample of all the wonderful ways that free software can be used.

All free software supporters are now invited to vote for their favorite image. Voting in the FSF40 Photo Contest requires being logged into an FSF account. If you do not have an FSF account, you can create a non-member account free of charge.

Shortly after voting closes on September 14, 2025, we will announce the winning image. The winning image will be displayed on the FSF homepage, printed celebration materials, and displayed at the live FSF40 celebration in Boston.

Vote for your favorite image now.
