Can you join us at LibrePlanet?
"I attended LibrePlanet in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for the first time last year. I had a wonderful time, and I can't wait for LibrePlanet 2014... I expect to have a lot of fun and interesting conversations with my friends, presenters, IRC guests who couldn't make it to Boston, and strangers who will become friends."
Here are some reasons to join us:
A program bursting with something for everyone in the free software movement, from inquisitive newcomers to hardcore developers.
Keynotes from NSA-revealer Jacob Appelbaum, GNOME executive director Karen Sandler, outgoing Wikimedia Foundation executive director Sue Gardner, and free software legends Eben Moglen and Richard Stallman.
Five-minute lightning talks by conference attendees about their free software passions (sign up to give one!) and an exhibition hall for projects and businesses in the free software world.
Social events every night of the conference weekend, where you'll meet new people in the free software movement and reconnect with friends from previous LibrePlanets. Note - the Free Software Foundation open house and cryptoparty on Friday, March 21, 2014 will now run from 17:00 - 19:30.
Two other free software events the same weekend: The 0th SpinachCon, where users and developers will improve the user experience of free software programs, on Friday, March 21, 2014; and the FSF's Seminar on GPL Enforcement and Legal Ethics on Monday, March 24, 2014.
If this sounds awesome to you, register by Tuesday, March 18, 2014! Students get gratis admission. So do FSF members, which makes this a great time to join as an associate member, to enjoy great benefits and support free software year-round. You can also get gratis admission (and a t-shirt), by volunteering at the conference. We're asking for registrations by Tuesday so that we can plan ahead and run the conference as smoothly as possible for everyone, but late registrations and walk-ups will still be accepted.
Still can't make it? We're sad, but we invite you to participate remotely in LibrePlanet, by watching the livestream and participating in the discussion via chat. Bookmark the remote participation center now, and head over there on Saturday, March 22, 2014 to watch the livestream.
Whether you're coming or not, you're also welcome on the libreplanet-discuss mailing list. It's great for planning ride-shares or social events on conference weekend, and also for participating in the conversation around free software events and issues.
We'd also like to express our gratitude to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Student Information Processing Board, our partner in organizing LibrePlanet 2014. Many members of SIPB will be at LibrePlanet, helping us welcome the MIT community.
