Call for Volunteers: Flyering for the fortieth anniversary of GNU

by Miriam Bastian Contributions Published on Sep 11, 2023 03:49 PM

To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the GNU System, the Free Software Foundation (FSF) is hosting a hackday for families, students, and anyone interested in hacking. We need your help to make the event known to the people of Boston and its vicinity. Please join us in flyering on September 15. We will meet at our office, located at 51 Franklin St, 5th Floor, Boston, MA, 02110, at 14:00 EDT and flyer until about 18:00 EDT -- but you can join us any time and for as long or short as you wish.

If you can't make it on September 15 but would still like to help, then please come to the office any day before October 1, grab some flyers, and let us know where you will distribute them. For example, you could leave the flyers at makerspaces, schools, after school programs, cinemas, and universities near where you live or work.

Note: We recommend that you send a message to resources@fsf.org a day or two prior to coming in so that we know to expect you.

The fortieth anniversary of the GNU System is an excellent opportunity to bring free software to the attention of the people around us. By helping us invite people to this event, you will be helping to promote computer user freedom. Together, let's show the people of Boston what free software is all about! Volunteering is a way to directly support the FSF's work, have a great time meeting other free software enthusiasts, swap stories, and graze like a gnu. If you volunteer, you might just make some friends -- and you will certainly make some memories.

Please let us know of your availability by replying to this email, or by sending a message to resources@fsf.org. Feel free to contact us with any questions you have as well. And while not mandatory, it will help us coordinate if you share your phone number with us.

And, of course, don't forget to attend the hackday on October 1 yourself. Please share the event within your social networks and by word of mouth.

We are incredibly appreciative to our supporters, and please let me be the first to say thank you in advance. We really couldn't do this without you!
