Copyright vs. Community
by Matt Lee published Feb 01, 2008 last modified Feb 01, 2008 09:54 AM — filed under:
Location: World Trade Center, Boulevard Adolfo Ruiz Cortines No. 3497, Colonia Ylang-Ylang, Boca del Rio, Veracruz, Mexico. Copyright developed in the age of the printing press, and was designed to fit with the system of centralized copying imposed by the printing press. But the copyright system does not fit well with computer networks, and only draconian punishments can enforce it. The global corporations that profit from copyright are lobbying for draconian punishments, and to increase their copyright powers, while suppressing public access to technology. But if we seriously hope to serve the only legitimate purpose of copyright—to promote progress, for the benefit of the public—then we must make changes in the other direction. This speech will be given through videoconference and will be part of the "Noveno Congreso International de Ingenieria Industrial y Tecnologias de Informacion C9: Innovando el Futuro" which will be take place from April 17th through the 19th. Registration is required at <http://www.congresoingenieria.com/>

SALON DE CONVENCIONES DEL HOTEL SAN NICOLAS, A. Lopez Mateos y Guadalupe, Ensenada, Baja California 22800, Zona Turistica .
