Schenectady, NY - Olin 115, Union College, 807 Union St. - Copyright developed in the age of the printing press, and was designed to fit with the system of centralized copying imposed by the printing press. But the copyright system does not fit well with computer networks, and only draconian punishments can enforce it. The global corporations that profit from copyright are lobbying for draconian punishments, and to increase their copyright powers, while suppressing public access to technology. But if we seriously hope to serve the only legitimate purpose of copyright--to promote progress, for the benefit of the public--then we must make changes in the other direction.

Valencia, Spain - Octubre CCC, C/ Sant Ferran, 12 (tel: +34 96 315 77 9) - El copyright fue desarrollado en los tiempos de la imprenta, y fue diseñado para adecuarse al sistema centralizado de copias impuesto por la imprenta en aquella época. Pero en la actualidad, el sistema de copyright mal se adapta a las redes informáticas, y solamente puede ser impuesto mediante severas medidas de fuerza. Las corporaciones globales que lucran con el copyright están presionando para imponer penalidades cada vez más injustas y para incrementar su poder en materia de copyright, restringiendo al mismo tiempo el acceso del público a la tecnología. Pero si lo que queremos realmente es honorar el único propósito legítimo del copyright --promover el progreso para beneficio del público-- entonces tendremos que realizar cambios en la dirección contraria.

Cosenza, Italy - Aula Magna, Università della Calabria, Arcavacata di Rende - Durante la manifestazione saranno presentati dei casi di successo di adozione di Software Libero in diversi enti calabresi che hanno affrontato la migrazione con risultati positivi. Scuole, enti pubblici e università traggono moltissimi benefici dall'adozione del software libero, soprattutto in termini di libertà conquistata, di indipendenza dai fornitori e di risparmi economici. La manifestazione si pone l'obiettivo di fare il punto della situazione sull'adozione del Software Libero in Calabria e di lanciare delle proposte concrete in favore del Software Libero. L'incontro illustrerà la situazione legislativa in Italia in merito al Software Libero, sarà presentata una bozza di legge regionale per la Calabria, sul modello di quanto fatto da molte altre regioni italiane. Tali proposte saranno supportate dalla viva voce di Richard Stallman, l'uomo che all'inizio degli anni 80 per primo teorizzò e mise in pratica i benefici del Software Libero. L'ingresso è libero e gratuito ed aperto a tutti.
