Sunday is the last day of our winter fundraiser, and we want to blow the roof off our goal of raising $450,000, so we can make our work supporting the GNU Project, advocating for free software, and enforcing the GPL even more effective.

Today is the 33rd anniversary of the announcement of the GNU Project, so we've got freedom on our minds. LibrePlanet 2017 is coming! The next installment of this annual celebration of user freedom is happening March 25-26, 2017 in the Boston area.

Yet we all know there are some truly amazing free software projects out there. That's why the Free Software Foundation and the GNU Project have presented the Free Software Awards for nearly two decades, honoring people and projects who have advanced the movement or created free software programs that serve crucial societal needs.

Microsoft wants to keep you locked in to Windows so that it can take your money, your personal data, and your user freedom. They don't want you to know that you have a choice of better operating systems; operating systems that respect your freedom. There are tons of free "as in freedom" software operating systems that you can download and install at no cost. And when they're improved, you can choose whether or not you want to upgrade, without a corporation breathing down your neck.
