Junior Web Developer, (Chicago, IL)
This a great part-time position for graduating/recently graduated college students or professionals early in their career looking to add their real-world Web development experience to their resume. This is a permanent part-time position with 30 guaranteed hours per month minimum, and can range to 50 hours per month.
The company, Summit Publishing, is a dynamic, small, progressive downtown Chicago-based business-to-business magazine publisher that publishes the magazines Packaging World and Automation World, along with some ancillary titles. Web sites include GreenerPackage.com, Packworld.com, Healthcare-Packaging.com, AutomationWorld.com, among others.
The Junior Web Developer will report directly to the VP/eMedia and will work closely with a Sr. Web Developer. The Sr. Web Developer will provide training, support, and mentoring. Independent problem-solving will be the primary mode of working with regular reports to either a Sr. Web Developer or the VP/eMedia as appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants to the position should be able to able to demonstrate experience writing and extending web applications using PHP and MySQL. A conceptual understanding of how modern Website Management Systems are architected is necessary, though applicants do not need to posses specific experience extending or writing such a system. However, applicants should have experience as both a user and administrator of a modern system (e.g. WordPress, MovableType, Joomla!, Drupal, Plone). Past experience writing standards-compliant (X)HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code should be evident in code samples. Applicants should be comfortable writing and troubleshooting PHP code. Coding standards will be provided and must be adhered to.
Those with experience coding with Drupal, Joomla, and jQuery are preferred, though such experience is not a hard requirement. Familiarity with with distributed version control systems (especially Mercurial) is also preferred as is past experience working with a development team.

Compensation is $25/hr. Expected load is 30 - 50 hours/mo. 50/50 on-location (Downtown Chicago) and telecommute. This is a contract position. You'll be responsible for paying your own taxes.
