Are you a software developer with an MS-degree (or equivalent), excellent skills in C programming and the desire to pursue a PhD at an excellent university in the areas of networking and security while contributing to GNU software? Then read on.

PhD Student in Computer Science (Technische Universität München)

Job Title: Research Assistant (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter)

Employment Duration: up to 5 years

We're looking for a PhD student to join our English-speaking research group at the Technische Universität München (TUM). The group is doing research in secure peer-to-peer routing and peer-to-peer applications using the GNUnet framework. The group is lead by Dr. Christian Grothoff, who is the maintainer of GNUnet and two other GNU packages. The work will include developing new network protocols, their implementation and evaluation, including large-scale simulations. The goals of the project is to develop usable free software, not limited academic prototypes.

Required Qualifications:

  • Computer Science or related degree, MS or equivalent
  • Excellent C development skills are required, experience with other programming languages (such as Java, PHP, ML, etc.) is also expected
  • Excellent English skills are required
  • Experience with GNU/Linux is required
  • Any other free software development experience is highly welcome
  • Any HPC experience is highly welcome
  • Must be comfortable in a dynamic research environment

You do not need to speak German (however, this maybe helpful for living here) and a work-permit is also not required (the university will be able to assist with legal requirements).

    To Apply:

Please email a CV and at least two reference letters to us. You will receive a confirmation e-mail and, if selected, will be asked to participate in a phone interview.
