We’re looking for a GNU/Linux server sysadmin to join our team.

We work with several funded startup companies and we’re looking for a GNU/Linux server sysadmin to join our team. If you’re a sysadmin who finds that things like installing reverse proxies, memcached, and PHP opcode caches is like fine-tuning a motorcycle, you’re the right person for us.

Our technology stack is built primarily with Drupal, Debian and Virtualmin and familiarity with them is a big plus. Essentially we’re looking for someone who is well-versed in maintaining and optimizing servers web applications based on GNU/Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP.

This is long-term contractor position with approximately 15-25 hours a week. Most of us are in Boston, Massachusetts, and we’d like to hire locally, but telecommuting is fine. We’d like you to:

  • Act as liaison between us and our webhost (SoftLayer).
  • Monitor our servers and quickly resolve problems as they arise.
  • Find and debug server performance and configuration issues and identify areas for improvement.
  • Help us create policies that improve our data security, backup and recovery practices.
  • Provide technical consulting and relevant documentation when needed.
  • Join us for occasional conference calls and company retreats in the tropics.
  • Please email us or contact us at our contact page with your contact information and anything else that you’d like us to know. Please include your hourly rate, references and time zone. Thanks!
