Database Application Developer, (Boston, MA)

We seek a database application developer to organize and manage large volumes of genomic, epidemiological and clinical data for multiple research projects.

The Genetics Program is an internationally renowned department at Boston University Medical School that conducts human genetic research in the areas of Alzheimer’s disease, blood disorders, mental illness, substance abuse, eye diseases and other complex diseases.

To support this medical research, we seek a database application developer to organize and manage large volumes of genomic, epidemiological and clinical data for multiple research projects; coordinate receipt and archiving of datasets acquired from research collaborations; write code to assemble datasets for querying and statistical analysis; and implement/maintain web-based data collection systems to support international multi-center field sites.

The ideal applicant will have the following qualifications:

  • Computer science or bioinformatics degree.
  • 2-4 years experience in MySQL database application development in a GNU/Linux or Apache environment.
  • Proficiency in Perl, PHP and/or Python.
  • Experience working with GNU/Linux operating systems and high performance computing environments.
  • Experience in a research environment.
  • Familiar with statistical software packages such as R.
  • Good communication skills.
