We are looking for a motivated individual to join our staff in a new and challenging public relations position.

The Software Freedom Law Center (SFLC) provides legal representation and other law-related services to protect and advance Free, Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS). Founded in 2005, the Center now represents many of the most important and well-established free software and open source projects.

The SFLC is looking for a motivated individual to join our staff in a new and challenging public relations position.

The candidate will be responsible for gathering and organizing information about ongoing projects at SFLC and communicating these to the traditional press, Free Software community members and to other for- and non-profit entities with an interest in Free and Open Source software. Duties will include handling press inquiries, spreading awareness of the organization to its various audiences, expanding press coverage of SFLC, monitoring coverage of its work as well as related organizations, and helping to organize community events and new initiatives at the center.

Ideal candidates will have experience explaining issues of a technical nature (legal, technological, or political) to a general audience, a history of reasonable public commentary (links to slashdot profiles or other public comment histories encouraged), and excellent written and verbal skills. Must be self starting and capable of turning long term plans into day-to-day action.

Our office uses only Free and Open Source Software; applicants who are already competent and regular users of such are preferred. Experience in public relations and familiarity with free software/culture social issues will both be valuable in this position. A history of experiments with new media and communication technologies would be a plus. Compensation in 35-55k range based on applicant's qualifications and experience.

Applicants are encouraged to send a cover letter and resume to officemanager@softwarefreedom.org. Please send all materials in plain text or other open format (no .doc files), and feel free to include any additional requirements or questions with your application.
