Note: This event was originally scheduled for March 27, 2006, but has been moved to the 25th. Richard Stallman will be speaking for researchers and professionals on the topic of copyrights. There will also be a short presentation given by the conference organizers on the current state of digital rights in Italy. He will give two speeches on the same day and both will be in English. 2006-05-03 | Internet Society of New York Presents Eben Moglen: Free Software and Free Media

Professor Moglen is currently a Professor of Law and Legal History at Columbia Law School as well as the General Counsel for the Free Software Foundation. "Free software puts in the hands of users the rules about packet distribution in the devices and networks that the software powers. That means free software plays a smaller or larger role in the determination of media concentration, according as users have more or less control over the network that envelopes their lives. Media concentrators know this to be true, and are adversaries of free software. I will describe how we will fight back, and win."
