2005-03-23 | RMS on MIT radio show

RMS will be heard on the MIT radio show, "Dinnertime Sampler". The show will be broadcast on WMBR 88.1 FM in Cambridge, MA. It will also be webcast and an audio recording will be available in OGG format after the broadcast date. The webcast can be heard during the broadcast time at .

2005-03-24 | David Turner in Sherbrooke, Quebec

David Turner will be coming from Boston to give a talk about Free Software on Thursday March 24, 2005 at 4:15pm at Bishop's University in the Nichols Building Room 4. He'll explain what Free Software is, and why it is important. David will show how Free Software has changed the world of computing, and has started to spread into other areas of western culture. Finally, he'll discuss how people can get started using and writing Free Software. The talk will last about an hour. After David speaks he will open it up for questions and answers. The talk is open to anyone willing to come and listen and be respectful, so don't hesitate to come and/or bring friends.

2005-03-26 | Free Software and Beyond

Richard Stallman will be speaking at the Franklin Pierce Law Center, 2 White Street, Concord, NH, 03301 in the Rich Room. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The times below are for the larger event, "Current Developments in the Open Source and Free Software Movements". Stallman will be speaking in the morning, from 10:00am to 11:15am. Stallman describes his speech as, "People often ask whether the ideals of the Free Software Movement apply to anything other than software. In this talk I will explain how I have extended them to additional kinds of works, and where I think they do not extend."

Richard Stallman will speak at Hall 11, National Palace of Culture, Bulgaria Square, Sofia, Bulgaria. The event is open to the public, but advance registration is required. The speech will be in English.

2005-05-18 | The Danger of Software Patents

Richard Stallman will speak at the University of Calgary, 2500 University Dr. N.W., Science Theatre ST140, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 1N4, Canada. Admission is $20.00, or free for CUUG (Calgary Unix Users Group) members. Admission is free for students and for people who cannot afford the fee. Doors open at 18:30.

2005-05-28 | Free Software Free Society Conference

The Free Software, Free Society (FSFS) Conference, organized by Government and civil society organizations from Brazil, Italy, Venezuela and India, is scheduled for 28-30 May 2005 in the Southern Indian city of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), the capital of the province of Kerala. The Conference is primarily an attempt to initiate a South-South-North dialogue on the use of Free Software as a useful paradigm for non-software realms and its role as an instrument for development. In the process, the countries involved will share their perspective and experiences in using Free Software.

2005-07-21 | El Software Libre y el Sistema Operativo GNU/Linux (Free Software and the GNU/Linux Operating System)

As part of nation-wide Venezuelan event to promote the benefits of the GNU/Linux OS and software freedoms, Richard Stallman will be giving a speech in Spanish entitled "El Software Libre y el Sistema Operativo GNU/Linux" ("Free Software and the GNU/Linux Operating System") at the Primer COngreso Nacional de Software Libre. The Stallman portion of the conference is free. The rest of the event costs approximately $10 USD for students and $35 USD for all others, registration required. 2005-07-25 | Free Software in the Age of Networks

Sponsored by the Universidad de los Andes, ESLARED WALC 2005 is an annual IT professionals conference in Mérida, Venezuela. The event takes place from July 25-29, 2005. Richard Stallman will be giving a speech at the conference entitled "Free Software in the Age of Networks" on July 25, 2005, from 11:30am to 12:30pm. The speech will be given in Spanish, and registrants of this ESLARED WALC conference are able to attend.

2005-07-25 | GNU and the Free Software Movement

As part of the the ESLARED WALC 2005 conference sponsored by the Universidad de los Andes, Richard Stallman will be giving a second speech on July 25, 2005 entitled "GNU and the Free Software Movement" from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Registration is required, and the event is open to attendees of the ESLARED WALC 2005 conference.

2005-07-29 | El Software Libre y el Sistema Operativo GNU/Linux

On the last leg of his Venezuelan journey, Richard Stallman will be speaking in Caracas about "El Software Libre y el Sistema Operativo GNU/Linux" ("Free Software and the GNU/Linux Operating System"). The speech, given in Spanish, will be for the Primer Congreso Nacional de Sofware Libre, a nation-wide Venezuelan event to promote the power and benefits of Free Software. Registration is required, and the cost is approximately $9 USD/students, $23 USD/professionals.

2005-08-07 | Copyright vs. Community

Richard Stallman will be speaking on "Copyright vs. Community" at the first international Wikimedia Conference (Wikimania 2005) in Frankfurt, Germany. The public is welcomed to attend, but registration is required on the Wikimania website. The three-day conference pass is 50 Euros and a one-day pass is 20 Euros. There is no special charge for the Stallman speech. The speech will be in English with simulataneous translations into Spanish and Italian.

2005-09-28 | Seminar: The GPL and Legal Aspects of Free Software Development

The Free Software Foundation is offering a seminar on the GPL and Legal Aspects of Free Software Development, at Columbia University Law School in New York City, NY, featuring Eben Moglen, Daniel Ravicher, and David Turner. The seminar will last one full day, including breakfast and lunch. Full details will be posted over the course of the next few days. E-mail seminar@fsf.org if you are interested in receiving the updates by e-mail as they are posted. The cost is $500 for registrations on or before August 31, or $600 after that.
