GPLv3 Launch at MIT
The first draft of version 3 of the GPL will be released at MIT. There will be speakers and panels to discuss the changes, including Richard Stallman, Eben Moglen, and Peter Brown. The event is open to the public, but please register in advance at the address below.
Richard Stallman on What's GNU?: Software and your freedom
The GNU Operating System (sometimes mistakenly called Linux) was developed so people can use computers and keep their freedom. This nontechnical talk explains the ethical and social issues of free software. This event is being hosted by Gnubies and LXNY. There is no charge and it is open to the public. The ending time here is a guess. Subway: Eighth Street stop on the N, R, sometimes W, lines; Astor Place on the 6 line; Third Avenue on the crosstown L line; Lower EastSide-Second Avenue-Houston Street on the F, V lines. Note that some of these lines may not be running right.

Free Software, Copyleft and Copyright --- and why you shouldn't call it "intellectual property"
Richard will be speaking at the School of Law at Boston University regarding the copyleft and copyright movements. BU Law School: 765 Commonwealth Avenue Boston, MA The above address is actually a plaza in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Walk through the Plaza (toward the river), going through the archways and down a few steps: the very tall building to the left is the Law Tower, and the law school auditorium is in the attached short building next to it. By MBTA (the "T" subway system): Take the "B" Green Line (towards Boston College) to the BU Central T stop. This lets you off immediately in front of the MLK Jr. Plaza.
Seminar: The GPL and Legal Aspects of Free Software Development
The Free Software Foundation is offering a seminar on the GPL and Legal Aspects of Free Software Development, at Columbia University Law School in New York City, NY, featuring Eben Moglen, Daniel Ravicher, and David Turner. The seminar will last one full day, including breakfast and lunch. Full details will be posted over the course of the next few days. Copyright vs. Community
Richard Stallman will be speaking on "Copyright vs. Community" at the first international Wikimedia Conference (Wikimania 2005) in Frankfurt, Germany. The public is welcomed to attend, but registration is required on the Wikimania website. The three-day conference pass is 50 Euros and a one-day pass is 20 Euros. There is no special charge for the Stallman speech. The speech will be in English with simulataneous translations into Spanish and Italian.
El Software Libre y el Sistema Operativo GNU/Linux
On the last leg of his Venezuelan journey, Richard Stallman will be speaking in Caracas about "El Software Libre y el Sistema Operativo GNU/Linux" ("Free Software and the GNU/Linux Operating System"). The speech, given in Spanish, will be for the Primer Congreso Nacional de Sofware Libre, a nation-wide Venezuelan event to promote the power and benefits of Free Software. Registration is required, and the cost is approximately $9 USD/students, $23 USD/professionals.

Free Software in the Age of Networks
Sponsored by the Universidad de los Andes, ESLARED WALC 2005 is an annual IT professionals conference in Mérida, Venezuela. The event takes place from July 25-29, 2005. Richard Stallman will be giving a speech at the conference entitled "Free Software in the Age of Networks" on July 25, 2005, from 11:30am to 12:30pm. The speech will be given in Spanish, and registrants of this ESLARED WALC conference are able to attend.
El Software Libre y el Sistema Operativo GNU/Linux (Free Software and the GNU/Linux Operating System)
As part of nation-wide Venezuelan event to promote the benefits of the GNU/Linux OS and software freedoms, Richard Stallman will be giving a speech in Spanish entitled "El Software Libre y el Sistema Operativo GNU/Linux" ("Free Software and the GNU/Linux Operating System") at the Primer COngreso Nacional de Software Libre. The Stallman portion of the conference is free. The rest of the event costs approximately $10 USD for students and $35 USD for all others, registration required. Free Software Free Society Conference
The Free Software, Free Society (FSFS) Conference, organized by Government and civil society organizations from Brazil, Italy, Venezuela and India, is scheduled for 28-30 May 2005 in the Southern Indian city of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), the capital of the province of Kerala. The Conference is primarily an attempt to initiate a South-South-North dialogue on the use of Free Software as a useful paradigm for non-software realms and its role as an instrument for development. In the process, the countries involved will share their perspective and experiences in using Free Software.

Admission is $20.00, or free for CUUG (Calgary Unix Users Group) members. Admission is free for students and for people who cannot afford the fee. Doors open at 18:30.
