SUMMARY:Copyright vs. Community
DTSTART:20090114T220000Z
DTEND:20090115T000000Z
DESCRIPTION:Krakow\, Poland. Building U2 (Centrum Dydaktyczne)\, AGH
(Krakow Technical University)\, Ul. Reymonta.\nCopyright developed in
the age of the printing press\, and was designed to fit with the syste
m of centralized copying imposed by the printing press. But the copyri
ght system does not fit well with computer networks\, and only draconi
an punishments can enforce it.\n\nThe global corporations that profit
from copyright are lobbying for draconian punishments\, and to increas
e their copyright powers\, while suppressing public access to technolo
gy. But if we seriously hope to serve the only legitimate purpose of c
opyright--to promote progress\, for the benefit of the public--then we
must make changes in the other direction. This talk will be part of
the second edition of IT Giants in Kraków conference\, Free Software
 for Free Thinkers.
